With attendance exceeding 1,000,000 visitors every year, the zoo has become a top touring destination for the San Antonio area.

The San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium participates in many conservation efforts from around the world. The Zoo is directly involved with many endangered and threatened species. A few of the projects near to heart are the Whooping Crane Recovery Program, Attwater’s Prairie Chicken Recovery Program, Endangered Texas Salamanders, and AZA Butterfly Conservation Initiative.

    The Zoo has over 3,500 animals, 750 species and a wide range of exhibits, including Kronkosky's Tiny Tot Nature Spot, Richard Friedrich Aquarium, Hixon Bird House, Lory Landing, Reptile House, Africa Live!, Butterflies!, Cranes of the World, African Plains, Prarie Chickens, Amazonia, Caterpillar Flight School, Rift Valley, and Gibbon Forest.
  • Where can I park?

    Arrive early to the Zoo to avoid parking hassles. A parking lot is open to the public near the Train Depot and is free of charge.
